The 2023 Open Field will take place on the Varsity Softball Field from 3:30-5:30pm beginning Tuesday, November 7 — daylight and weather permitting — and will take place every Tuesday and Thursdays until the start of tryouts, which begin on Monday, February 5, 2024. Currently, no open field sessions are planned for the Thanksgiving or Winter breaks. Of course, things do come up from time to time, so you should always check this site daily for possible schedule changes and updates.
The general format for the open field sessions will include an active warm-up (15 minutes), followed by softball-specific coordination drills (30 minutes), and ending with “sandlot” play (75 minutes), where participants will be separated into 2 squads that differ each day where they can “just play softball.” This format will be adjusted when available daylight is limited.
Participants should wear athletic clothing and athletic shoes, and they should bring their softball glove, bat, and personal helmet, as no equipment will be issued for open field sessions. Cleats are strongly recommended, but not required. Participation in Open Field is not required to attend the 2024 Softball Tryout, but it is highly recommended.
